Personalized SERPs: Search's Wave of the FutureIt's not just the Internet that's moving at the speed of light, it's the whole search engine optimization field, as reported this week in Click Z. What's on the table, now, is the beginning of something likely to become more and more important: the personalized search results page. It's an excellent step for the consumer, reports Shari Thurow, but challenging for search engine marketers, as "some standard SEO practices will no longer be useful or applicable." In particular, position checking may become more problematic: "With personalization," Thurow writes, "consistent rankings will no longer be the norm. One searcher demographic may want to filter out content from one Web site, whereas another might prefer to keep it." This may not be a bad thing: relying too much on position ranking can engender laziness in terms of actual site design. Want people to personalize their search engine results pages - and still find your site? It's up to you to make your site something that is user- and SEO-friendly, that people will want to include in their results page (or, at a minimum, not filter out).
And that's our take on the news today!
