Search Gets VisualSearch is getting more visual. Some search engines have always been hooked into a mind-mapping paradigm; kartoo.com comes immediately to mind. But now Search Insider is reporting that another interface is becoming popular: BUILDING ON THE RICH SEARCH user-interface crowd that now includes Yahoo Mindset, ChaCha, and Become, Russian search engine Quintura unveiled its new, visually based search interface on Monday. Quintura is a "visual find engine" that uses tag clouds and a rich interface to dynamically display and refine results. The interface includes a query box at the top of the page, a tag cloud on the left side of the screen, and a rich results display on the right hand side of the page. When you enter a query into the search field on Quintura, a tag cloud with closely related terms appears on the left. Hover your cursor over a particular word or phrase to refine results. What's the big deal? Graphical user interfaces are becoming more important than ever, and search is no exception to the need. Users who are more visually-oriented or accustomed to the interfaces of the social networking sites are demanding a better, more visual experience when they search, and engines do well to keep up with the need. Try seeing how your site "looks" via Kartoo and Quintura, and see if it doesn't help you tweak both your site and your SEM campaign.
And that's our take on the news today!
