Want Advertisers?In a recent Chief Marketer article, Dave Friedman gives readers what he calls an "early Valentine": a list of ways to attract advertisers to one's site. The list includes taking a critical look at the website (content quality, user experience, visitor profile), knowing the revenue levers, knowing the site itself (why go to it rather than any other?), understanding advertisers' needs, making every impression count (maximizing the revenue potential of major pages), standardizing and simplifying sizes, creating customized solutions, offering targeted options, knowing that bigger is better, and the understanding that service matters. "So what's the bottom line secret to getting advertisers to love your site?" asks Friedman. "Treat your advertisers like your best customers. Be relevant to their needs. Offer compelling content. In short, don't assume you have their business. Give them a reason to do business with you, and you'll earn your share of the $43 billion that's coming to you." As more and more marketing dollars move online, it's important to think about all revenue streams: through email, search, and advertising. And Friedman's advice is good for any of those channels: give people a reason to do business with you!
