Where Do People Spend Online Time?Although there is still a marked digital divide, it's clear that more and more people are spending more and more time online. And last week the Online Publisher's Association released a study attempting to quantify people's online media habits. Reversing the situation that existed a mere four years ago, the study found that people spend more online hours looking at content than they spend with email. Web users spend 47% of their online time on content sites (in 2003, only 34% reported that type of usage), while only 33% of users' online time is devoted to email (in 2003, 45% of user time was spent with email). It's an interesting trend, and underlines a fundamental bit of online wisdom: marketers who are agile and flexible will fare best in the online world. Offering users a number of different routes to obtain what they need (through the use of email, desktop applications, search programs ... and whatever new technology is developed) will keep users interested and involved by giving them a choice of media.
And that's our take on the news today!
