Starting the Year Right

January is a great time for post-holiday sales, online as well as offline, but don't let that blind you to the need to look ahead. What are your goals for 2008? If you don't have any, it's a sure thing that you won't reach them!

It's easy to get caught up in the pressure, or even the rhythm, of emessaging, and harder to step back and take stock of what you're doing, and whether, in fact, you have a plan. So, sales aside, January is a good time to:

  • Do a case study or two. We can show you how to do a case study if you’ve never done this before, but it's a good exercise in seeing if your campaign strategies from last year worked as well as they could.

  • Test, test, test! This is a great time to try out a new mailing, a mailing at a different time of day or day of the week, or something else that's new.

  • Once you've tested, analyze the data. We can help with the analysis process and explain to you what your data means. See if 2008 isn't the time to break with some of your old habits that may not be making the grade now.

  • Take stock of your customers. New customers may have different levels of response. Try creating some new advertisements or newsletters and trying them out.

As you try out new things, make sure that you analyze everything you do, and learn from the results. Once you have them, you can incorporate them into your goals for the new year. We're here to help, every step of the way: all you have to do is ask!

Your first goal for 2008 should be to review what you've been doing, test both old and some new approaches, analyze the data, and look ahead. It’s going to be a great year!
